THE GREAT EROSION EVENT

The study of the geology of the earth has confirmed that immediately before the sediments were deposited on the earth’s surface, there was an event of extreme violence which uplifted the crystalline granite basement, and scoured away 6-8 vertical kilometres of rock. This is exactly what the Bible teaches took place when the flood began and the fountains of the great deep were broken up.

James Hutton observed the uplifted and eroded granite rock beneath the sedimentary rock in Scotland in the year 1787, and published a drawing of this feature. (Fig. 15).

This massive unconformity where an immense volume of Precambrian rock has been removed, is found worldwide. In 1910 the geologist,  Charles D. Walcott, stated that:

"Everywhere there is a stratigraphic and time break between the known pre-Cambrian rocks and the Cambrian sediments of the North American continent." (Charles D. Walcott, "Abrupt Appearance of the Cambrian Fauna on the North American Continent". Cambrian Geology and Paleontology, 1910).
